Sikkim Introduces Tourist Entry Fee: What You Need to Know Before Your Visit

Sikkim Introduces Tourist Entry Fee

If you plan on visiting Sikkim soon, there's an important, albeit small, change to remember! The Sikkim government has introduced a tourist entry fee of ₹50 for sustainable tourism under new Acts and provisions for infrastructure improvement. This fee will be collected while checking into hotels and used to improve cleanliness, road connectivity, and facilities statewide for tourists, thereby supporting the local economy and making your visit more meaningful.

New Tourist Fee Rule in Sikkim

Through the Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules, 2025, the Government of Sikkim has provided that all travellers, except children under 5 years of age, are to pay a one-time entry fee of ₹50 upon entry into Sikkim. The new regulation came into force in March 2025 and was introduced in view of the state's efforts toward long-term sustainable tourism.

How Will the Fee Be Collected?

  • The hotels shall collect the fee during check-in;
  • The same shall be directly deposited into the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of your contribution. From this fund, infrastructure improvements, tourist facilitation, and cleanliness maintenance work shall be carried out for all important tourist sites in Sikkim.

Fee Validity & Re-Entry Rules

  • Fees of ₹50 are for 30 days from the date of entry into the state.
  • A tourist re-admitted into Sikkim after 30 days of departure must pay the fee again.

How Will This Benefit Tourists?

The revenue taken from this initiative will be for:

  • Improvement of road connectivity will provide an easier and smoother trip.
  • Keeping cleanliness at tourist spots.
  • Improvement of tourist services for a better and more enjoyable stay.

This initiative in responsible tourism will help keep Sikkim a clean, green destination, welcoming travellers from near and far. Hence, as you plan a trip to Sikkim, keep this minimal extra charge in mind for a hassle-free, eco-friendly travel experience!
